Country sees lowest virus cases in 3 months

95% decline in infections in federal capital

Pakistan on Tuesday reported slightly over 1,000 new cases of the novel coronavirus—the lowest daily figure in the last three months, according to official data.

With 1,013 new cases reported over the past 24 hours, the total number of infections reached 266,096, with 1,481 patients in critical condition. This is the lowest daily figure of confirmed cases since May 14 when the country reported only 490 cases.

Around 40 patients died due to the disease across the country in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,639.
According to government data, 2,101 more patients have recovered from coronavirus in the country taking the total number to 208,030.

According to Punjab’s health authorities, 253 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the province in the past 24 hours, taking the provincial total to 90,444. The province has recorded less than 300 cases for the first time since May 22.

The cases have also declines in Sindh, where 546 new infections were reported taking the provincial tally to 113,553. The death toll in the province has reached 2,019 after 26 new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.

A total of 7,069 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours while 897 patients recovered during this period.
A total of 280 new cases were confirmed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, taking the total to 32,523. With six more deaths, the death toll in the province has hit 1,153.

The provincial authorities said 215 patients recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 25,582. The number of active cases stands at 5,788.

Islamabad reported 26 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking its total to 14,625. One more death was also confirmed in the federal capital.

Gilgit Baltistan has reported 19 new cases, taking its total to 1,868. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, seven new cases were confirmed as it tally reached 1,922. No deaths were reported in G-B an AJK.

Special Assistant to the PM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza said the federal capital has done wonders in controlling the contagion. In a tweet, the special assistant said Islamabad had seen a 95% decline in positive cases.
On June 13, 4,136 tests were carried out with 771 positive results. In comparison, 1,452 tests were conducted on July 20 and only 26 results were positive.
