China donates 20,000 surgical masks to Karachi

Medical assistance handed over to Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani

China on Sunday donated as many as 20,000 surgical masks to the Karachi commissioner to help in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, which has so far infected 112,118 people in Sindh as per the government statistics.

The medical assistance, which was sent by the Zhangjiajie municipal government, was handed over to Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani at his office.

Thanking the Chinese government, Shalwani said: “Pakistan has a long and strong relationship with China and the gift from the Zhangjiajie mayor will further strengthen the friendly relationship between the two countries and would open the corridor of a mutual relationship between the two cities.”

Mayor Liu Gean had written a letter to the Karachi commissioner, expressing the desire to further promote cooperation between the two cities. He expressed his intention to working in travel, economy, culture, education and other areas to boost the exchanges for a better future and benefit the people of the two cities.

“I am very worried about the Covid-19 situation in Karachi,” the letter quoted him as saying. The mayor expressed hope that masks’ donation would contribute to Karachi’s fight against the microbe. He also hoped that the people of the city would soon resume a normal life.
