Two men ‘killed’ over monetary dispute

HYDERABAD:

The Thatta police filed an FIR for murder and arrested a suspect when two men died after drowning on Friday - one succumbing at the hospital after recording a statement with accusations of murder.

Ashraf Shoro drowned in KB Feeder Canal, while his nephew, Sikandar Shoro, survived the drowning but passed away at the hospital.

Sikandar's cousin, Ali Hassan Shoro, filed the FIR, nominating income tax official Manthar Junejo, his son Iqbal Junejo and two unidentified persons on charges of murder. According to him, the two men were killed over money, with Sikandar allegedly murdered at the hospital.

In a video statement recorded before his death, Sikandar claimed that due to ailing health, he had been confined to his house and therefore the matter of his late father's gratuity and pension was being handled by Ashraf and Manthar. "My uncle [Ashraf] and Manthar told me they were taking me to a faith healer, but when we reached KB Feeder Canal, they threw me in the water," he alleged, adding that he swam to safety but saw Manthar then throw Ashraf in the water as well.

According to Ali, after Sikandar survived the drowning attempt, he was murdered at the hospital. "He was killed when our family was busy with Ashraf's funeral. Someone struck him on the head."

The police have arrested Manthar.
