RAWALPINDI:

Police on Friday identified a suspect who was killed during a botched robbery attempt in the Cantonment area two days ago. Police claimed that Ashfaq Hussain, who was shot dead by a police officer during the robbery, was a seasoned felon.

ASI Amir of Cantonment police station had told police that he was withdrawing money from an ATM on Bank Road in Saddar two days ago when robbers allegedly barged into the narrow cabin and tried to snatch his cash, wallet and cell phone at gunpoint.

Trained in dealing with such scenarios, ASI Amir resisted the robbers. During the ensuing scuffle, he managed to draw his service pistol and shoot one of the robbers.

The suspect was later identified as Hussain who, police said, had a criminal record, including of illegal arms possession, theft and robbery.
