Glimmer of hope as virus recoveries soar in Sindh
Sindh records over 14,000 fresh recoveries, 1,170 new infections and 30 more deaths
KARACHI:Sindh saw a ray of hope during an otherwise depressing state of affairs, as the number of single-day Covid-19 recoveries surpassed the 14,000 mark for the first time on Friday. Meanwhile, the coronavirus claimed 30 more lives and infected 1,170 more persons.
In a statement issued in this regard, the CM said this was the first time that 14,027 patients had recovered in a day in the province since the pandemic began. Following this, the total number of recuperated patients had reached 88,103, he added.
Terming the development "encouraging", he still maintained that the struggle against the virus was far from over.
As many as 30 more patients have succumbed to the virus and 1,170 more persons have tested positive, raising the Covid-19 death toll to 1,952 and the provincial virus tally to 111,238, he said.
Pointing out that the detection rate had reduced considerably, he stressed that it needed to be further decreased. "The infection rate has started to drop but this does not mean that the pandemic is over," he insisted.
Presenting a geographical breakdown of the newly reported cases, he said that 477 cases were reported from Karachi, while 96 cases were detected in Hyderabad, 46 in Khairpur, 44 each in Tharparkar and Sanghar, 42 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 38 in Sukkur, 30 in Mirpurkhas, 29 in Thatta, 26 in Naushero Feroze, 24 in Tando Muhammad Khan, 18 in Jamshoro, 17 in Larkana, 16 in Dadu and as many in Jacobabad, 15 each in Shikarpur and Qambar-Shahdadkot, 11 in Tando Allahyar, nine in Badin, five in Umerkot and as many in Kashmore-Kandhkot.
Besides, he added, 21,183 coronavirus patients were under treatment in the province, with 20,355 in home isolation, 73 in isolation centres and 755 admitted to hospitals. Among them, 488 are critically ill and 69 on ventilators, according to the CM.
