KARACHI:

Karachi AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon directed police officials on Wednesday to register cases irrespective of police stations' jurisdictions, in order to save citizens from inconvenience.

The directive, however, will only be applicable if a citizen is subjected to a crime in an area falling on the periphery of two or three police. In such circumstances or in emergency situations, affected citizens may register a case at the nearest police station, where the SHO would be bound to register the case, clarified a police spokesperson. The directive does not apply to cases of miscellaneous crime, he said.

Speaking on the matter while addressing an assembly of officials in Sindh Boy Scouts Association's auditorium, Memon stressed that police stations' jurisdictions should not be a cause of inconvenience for people.

The AIG also ordered immediate departmental action against incompetent officers and called for appointing competent officers so that investigation could be improved. Besides, he instructed the Investigation SSP to launch training courses for capacity-building among investigation officers.

He directed SPs and DSPs to personally monitor investigations so that any flaws may be rectified in a timely manner. Speaking of street crime, he ordered officials to increase patrolling and develop strategies to make more arrests for such criminal activities.
