ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to the respondents over a petition challenging the appointment of the director-general of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in the capital. The appointment of the DG had been challenged by the Employees Welfare Association of Islamabad Model Colleges. Filed through Javed Iqbal, the petition contended that FDE DG Syed Umair Javed was an employee of the Competition Commission. He had been inducted in the Federal Education Ministry as a joint secretary on deputation. Later on, he was assigned the additional charge of FDE DG. The petitioner maintained that this was a violation of the law as well contravening a verdict issued by the Supreme Court (SC’s) on giving positions to officers on deputation. Secretaries of the cabinet division and education ministry, FDE director-general, and the chairperson of the Competition Commission have been named as the respondents in the case. The court has sought answers from these respondents by October 12.
