Senior police officers, dual nationals express concerns at rising street crime

The Rawalpindi police have failed to trace suspects involved in looting Rs10 million in cash and valuables from an expatriate family, despite the availability of forensic evidence.

Tikka Khan and his family had returned from England on the weekend. While heading to their village in Jaswala from the Islamabad International Airport, they were intercepted by armed men who looted cash and valuables, including gold worth over Rs10 million.

Police sources said that the Rawat police had immediately collected digital and physical forensic evidence from the site. However, they have yet to apprehend any suspect.

Meanwhile, senior police officers have expressed their concerns about the frequent snatching incidents with families returning from abroad in Rawalpindi.

The recent ordeal of a British-Pakistani family strengthened their suspicions that the robbers were particularly targeting expatriates.

They have tasked field officers to arrest those involved in such incidents. Sources in the district police department told The Express Tribune that many people are returning from aboard. After landing at the Islamabad International Airport (IIA), they go to surrounding areas such as Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The Kallar Sayedan Road, a key artery used in the journey, has become a hot spot for such robberies.
