Watch: Mehwish Hayat makes PSA for polio eradication

In her latest video, the actor has requested her followers to support anti-polio drives

Popular actor and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz recipient Mehwish Hayat recently made a public service announcement on her Twitter, that too about polio in times of Covid-19.

Whilst addressing the pandemic, Hayat brought to the knowledge of her viewers about Pakistan's polio eradication programme - the helpline of which is also educating callers about the noverl coronavirus.

Taking to the micro-blogging website on Saturday, Hayat wrote, "Sharing an interesting bit of information with you all that I just found out and appreciating the work being done by our polio workers.Let’s help them succeed in their mission of a healthy Pakistan by immunising young children against polio and other diseases regularly."

She then added a video in which she says, "I want to share something very interesting with you that I just recently found out. Kya ap jaantay hain ke 1166 helpline, jis par hum coronavirus ki maalumaat hasil karnay keliye calls kartay hain, wo asal men Pakistan polio eradication programme ki helpline hai (Did you know that 1166, the helpline we call for information on Covid-19, is actually Pakistan's polio eradication programme's helpline?)

She added, "Sirf yehi nahi, jab se coronavirus Pakistan men aya is team ne din raat aik kardiye is virus ke asraat kam karnay men (Not only that, ever since Covid-19 spread in Pakistan, this polio eradication team has worked day in and day out to lessen the impact of the virus in our country)."

"Ye apni families se dur reh kar, apni jaanon ko khatray men daal kar kaam kar rahe hain taakay hum sab sehatmand reh sakay. These people have been staying away from their families and putting their lives at stake so that we can stay healthy," relayed Hayat.

She then explained how the biggest problem with eradicating and fighting Covid-19 is that it spreads too quickly and a vaccine has not be discovered for it. Contrary to which, polio vaccines are available.

"So please vaccinate your children of polio and other diseases regularly," requested the star.
