Land Dispute: Man killed over old enmity

ISLAMABAD: A long-running land dispute turned deadly on Thursday after a man was allegedly shot dead by a rival group in the outskirts of the city. Police said 55-year-old Haji Tariq Mehmud was shot at by his rival Muhammad Habib in the Kirpa area near Koral. Police said Mehmud died on the spot. He was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), where doctors pronounced him dead. The assailant managed to flee.  Police said the motive behind the killing was a land dispute. The two groups had already exchanged fire many times before. In different cases of fighting and firing, they had injured and killed each other’s supporters.  The Koral police have registered a murder case against Muhammad Habib, however, no efforts were made by the police to arrest him. The police officer investigating the case said that the complete details of the case still have to be collected, though the family of the deceased has nominated Habib as the killer in their complaint lodged with the police.
