ISLAMABAD:

The Senate Committee on Delegated Legislation on Friday discussed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Act 2017 comprehensively with particular reference to Section 6, which pertained to creation of the policy board. FBR officials briefed the committee about the policy board, its values, missions, policies and guidelines. The committee stressed the need for holding frequent meetings of the policy board because according to the Act, a meeting should be held every three months. Earlier, Committee Chairman Kauda Babar had been nominated for membership of the board, however, he resigned because no meeting was held despite repeated requests and reminders. Agreeing to the suggestion, committee members pointed out that the current challenging time called for more regular meetings of the policy board, especially to discuss the effects of Covid-19 on the economy and the budget.
