Army chief hails improved security situation in tribal districts

Gen Qamar lauds efforts of security forces in assisting civil administration over fight against Covid-19

While visiting Corps Headquarters Peshawar, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday appreciated improved security situation and measures for better border management including fencing in tribal districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the army chief was given a detailed briefing on the prevailing security situation, progress on development works and socio-economic uplift in the tribal districts.

He lauded efforts of security forces in assisting civil administration for the fight against Covid-19, particularly the effective containment efforts.

Earlier, on arrival at the Corps Headquarters, the COAS was received by Commander Peshawar Corps Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood, the statement added.

Last month, during his visit to the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, COAS reiterated that the Pakistan Army will continue to make all-out efforts "for provision of secure environment for sustained socio-economic progress".

General Qamar shared his thoughts on security environment of the region and his vision of enduring peace in Pakistan, the military's media wing had said.

"Army will keep doing all that is required of us for provision of secure environment for sustained socio-economic progress," the ISPR quoted the COAS as saying.
