Informal education is the only way to provide access to education to the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society with equality.
This was stated by a National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) official on Monday, adding that the commission is providing free and compulsory education to the poorest of the poor with the belief that flexible approaches towards learning and multigrade teaching through informal education in remote areas can cut costs and effectively provide education.
"NCHD has set up adult literacy centres in local communities for providing basic literacy skills to individuals, especially women, in the age group of 11-45, who were either never enrolled before or had droppe d out of schools before acquiring literacy skills," he said, adding that the syllabus and textbooks for students enrolled in these schools are designed for easy learning and functionality, thereby enhancing retention.
Moreover, communities are mobilised to provide space for the centres as well as the teachers.
