Dr Nisar Morai, the former chairperson of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS), was involved in various illegal activities in close connection with former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, claimed a joint investigation team (JIT) report pertaining to the high-profile case on Monday.
The JIT report, made public by the Sindh government on Monday, stated that Morai, who is associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party, had strong links with certain political figures, adding that he had confessed to his involvement in financial corruption.
According to the report, Morai had provided financial support and arms to the Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) against Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Altaf, claiming that Morai and Mirza had met MQM-H's chief Afaq Ahmed in Karachi Central Jail in this regard. The report added that Mirza, a former PPP leader who is now in the Grand Democratic Alliance, gave ammunition for MQM-H party workers in Morai's presence.
Moreover, it stated that Morai had confessed to his involvement in land grabbing with Mirza's support, also holding meetings with notorious Lyari gang leaders and Peoples Amn Committee chief Uzair Baloch on Mirza's directions.
Several weapons were also reportedly recovered from Morai's possession, while he had admitted to the JIT that he had exchanged weapons with Mirza too.
The report further disclosed that Morai had illegally appointed around 80 ghost employees in the FCS while also extorting money from former society chairperson Sultan Qamar Siddiqui on a monthly basis. Besides, it said, he would extort funds from gambling dens too.
