Running dry: Gharo, Pipri pumping stations hit by power breakdown

KARACHI:

The city’s water shortage was exacerbated on Sunday after a prolonged power breakdown at Gharo and Pipri pumping stations led to suspended water supply to various areas of East district, including Korangi, Landhi, Bin Qasim Town, Korangi Creek, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Qayyumabad and Karsaz.

The supply was suspended at around 5pm, depriving the city of 15 million gallons of water.

Due to the suspension of water supply, water pipelines have been emptied and will take hours to replenish. It is also feared that the supply of water to other areas will be affected as well.

Keeping in view the situation, a Karachi Water and Sewerage Board spokesperson has appealed to citizens to use water carefully.
