'Crime rate down by 25% in Islamabad'

Figures released for past six months

ISLAMABAD:

The first six months of the on-going year saw a considerable decrease in overall crime in the federal capital due to effective policing measures, hard work of the personnel, their timely action against criminals and unique initiatives for improvement in performance, an Islamabad police spokesman said. During the current year, the data reveals that overall heinous crime has decreased by 24 per cent. The incidents of robbery and street crime have reduced by 52 per cent and 30 per cent respectively. Incidents of vehicle theft have declined by six per cent whereas burglary has been reduced by 41 per cent. During this period, Islamabad police also had a crackdown against drugs pushers and those possessing illegal weapons and witnessed an increase of 47 per cent and 19 per cent in the recovery of illegal weapons and narcotics respectively.
