RAWALPINDI:

Police on Friday said that they have arrested a traffic warden who allegedly tortured his wife, also a traffic warden, to death over a domestic dispute.

Waris Khan police said that they were alerted to the incident when the victim, Ghazala Noreen, was brought to a hospital in critical condition where doctors pronounced her as dead.

The victim’s brother, Ikhtisam Aslam told the police that his sister lived with her husband, traffic warden Iqtidar Hussain, in the Chamanzar Colony within the remits of the Waris Khan police.

He added that his sister was frequently subjected to physical violence by her husband. On Friday, he allegedly beat her so much that caused her to bleed profusely. Police subsequently registered a case and arrested the suspect.

Waris Khan police station SHO Ghazanfar Abbas said that an initial examination of the victim’s body showed bruising from being struck with a blunt object - such as a stick - in the head and excessive bleeding from her ears. Moreover, they found signs of torture and beatings from eight different places on her body. However, they said the exact cause of death will only be determined once the detailed post-mortem report arrives.

The official added that they handed over the victim’s body to her family after doctors completed the autopsy and other medico-legal procedures. The family later buried her in her native Gujjar Khan.

Abbas added that they intend to produce the suspect, who was deputed on Marir Chowk, in court today (Saturday) and obtain physical remand to further investigations, especially to learn about the location of the murder weapon and recover it. He added that they have already collected evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of witnesses.

On June 22, he had beaten his sister leaving her unconscious. Akash then called Wasay and told him that his sister was unconscious. Wasay said her condition worsened and she ultimately succumbed to her wounds.
