India's Covid-19 recovery rate now at 59.5%

India added 100,000 Covid-19 cases in the last 5 days alone, with total to date of over 600,000

More than 305,000 coronavirus patients have recovered in India since the start of the pandemic, making for a recovery rate of 59.5%, said India’s Health Ministry on Thursday.

The ratio of positive virus cases to the number of tests done stands at 8.34%.

The total number of samples tested up to July 1 is 9 million, with 229,588 samples tested on Wednesday alone, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Meanwhile, the country’s coronavirus tally has crossed 600,000 with 19,684 new patients and 434 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to official figures. India added 100,000 cases in just the last five days. India’s cumulative death toll has risen to 17,837.

With 604,641 total cases, India is the fourth-worst affected country in the world. The US is still in the number one spot with 2.6 million cases.

The western state of Maharashtra is the worst-affected state in the country, registering as many as 5,537 cases in the last 24 hours. The state has a total of 1.8 million cases, including 8,053 deaths.

A total of 363 inmates and 102 jail staff tested positive for coronavirus so far in the state, according to the Maharashtra Prison Department data. Four inmates have lost their lives from Covid-19.
