‘Red alert’ declared in twin cities

Following the terrorist attack on the stock exchange in Karachi, security has been beefed up in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Islamabad Police Inspector General (IGP) Amir Zulfiqar Khan directed to raise the status of security in the federal capital to a ‘red alert’ while he strongly directed all senior police officers to personally check the status of security measures adopted in their respective areas. Moreover, they were told to brief security staff deployed at different locations across the federal capital about the latest security situation.

Further, he directed to intensify security checks at all entry and exit points to the federal capital, while residents were requested to keep their identity documents with them.

Security in Rawalpindi

Security in cantonment and city areas of Rawalpindi has been put on red alert. Security forces patrolling in the city has been enhanced, even deploying armoured vehicles for the purpose near 200 sensitive installations in the city and cantonment areas, including the airport.

Additional personnel from the police, counter-terrorism department and other law enforcement agencies were deployed around to city to beef up security while security has been enhanced at government hospitals, offices, bus stands, bazaars, major highways, mosques and imambargahs, churches and other public places.
