Thousands of vehicles seized, shops sealed

As many as 7,762 vehicles were impounded, while 2,121 shops and 48 industries were sealed in the district during the current moth for violating the smart lockdown, Section 144 and anti-coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) announced by the Punjab government.
In addition to registering cases against 14 vendors for serious violations, the shop owners were fined Rs8.118 million for not complying with the government’s directives.
At least 32,492 vehicles were challaned and 7,782 vehicle owners were issued warnings over minor violations.
The statistics were shared by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali during a meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Ishrat Ali to review the anti-coronavirus measures. Regional Police Officer (RPO) Raja Rifat Mukhtar and officials of the health department and Pakistan Army were also present during the meeting.
The divisional commissioner said all possible measures should be taken to protect the health of the doctors and paramedics involved in the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
He also said the supply of protective equipment and kits should continue for the safety of the front line staff.
