Pakistan’s boxing campaign starts today

Three pugilists vie for medals in ASBC Championship.

Pakistan will kick off their Asian Confederation Boxing Championship campaign (ASBC) today with pugilist Usman Butt facing Kyrgyzstan’s Mamakeev Meder in the 56-kilogramme (kg) category fight at Incheon, South Korea.


The tournament will see 135 boxers from 23 countries.

Experienced pugilist Nisar Khan will take on another Kyrgyzstan’s opponent, Osmonov Nursultan, in the 75-kg category. The 91-kg boxer Yasir Javed, who got a walkover on the opening day will also be in action today.

Pakistan’s main medal hope Mohammad Waseem has been drawn to meet Jumayev Zarip in his first round match of the 52-kg fight tomorrow. Amir Khan (64kg) and Arshad Hussain (69kg) will also start their campaigns tomorrow.
