1,564 fresh Covid-19 cases reported in Sindh

395,287 samples have been tested for the coronavirus to date in the province

KARACHI: As many as 1,564 new coronavirus cases were reported overnight in the province, said Sindh Chief Minister on Tuesday, adding that the total number infected person had soared to 72,656.

Meanwhile, the contagious disease claimed 21 more lives, taking the death toll to 1,124, he said. “On the other hand, 1,357 patients recovered from the virus, which took the tally of recovered patients to 38,401, constituting 53 per cent of the total infected people.”

According to the CM, 395,287 samples have been tested for the coronavirus to date in the province.

“We are trying to increase the recovery [rate] and curb the mortality rate by boosting the testing capacity,” the CM said.

Sindh CM further stated that 33,131 people were currently affected by the virus, of whom 31,535 had been home-isolated, 1,547 were being treated at hospitals and 49 were in quarantine centres.

He added that the condition of 614 patients was said to be critical and of them 118 were on ventilators.

The CM asked people to ensure social distance and wear face masks when they leave their homes.
