KARACHI: Police in Karachi on Tuesday released a ten-year-old boy, arrested for alleged car theft, without any legal action keeping in view his age.

The boy, accused of stealing a car from the Khayaban-e-Mujahid area of the Defence Housing Authority, was arrested by Madadgar-15 Police from the Sea View area during routine patrolling. Police also seized a stolen Suzuki Mehran from his possession.

Earlier, CCTV footage of the young boy stealing the car and taking it for a joyride also made rounds on social media.

According to the station house officer of Darakhshan Police Station, Naseer Tanoli, the juvenile car thief is a resident of Machar Colony.

"He is fond of driving and it is for this reason that he resorts to stealing cars and motorcycles. The boy drives stolen vehicles until they run out of fuel and then abandons them," the SHO said.

He added that the minor was let off without any legal proceedings, but his father, Fatah, who is a drug addict, was called to the police station and warned to keep a check on his son.
