Committee to address students’ woes

Governor says education sector suffered

LAHORE: Talks among Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun, and the University Students Action Committee concluded on Monday and the students postponed sit-ins outside Governor House and at various other places across Punjab.

The governor formed an eight-member committee headed by Punjab Higher Education secretary to solve the problems being faced by the students of universities.

The president of the private universities association will also be a member of the committee.

The governor said that students were the future of the country and the government stood with them. “Steps will be taken to resolve all issues as soon as possible.”

The governor and the provincial minister held talks with members of the Students Action Committee, including Hamza Mustafa and Sibt-e-Hassan. The action committee apprised them of the problems faced by the university students due to the coronavirus crisis.

UET Vice Chancellor Mansoor Sarwar, the Punjab Higher Education Commission chairperson, Agriculture University Faisalabad VC, Punjab University VC, University of Health Sciences VC, Fatima Jinnah Medical University VC and the president of Private Sector Universities Association are members of the committee formed by the governor.
