Covid claims lives of 63 healthcare workers across Pakistan

30 doctors and three nurses die in Punjab alone

LAHORE: At least 63 doctors, paramedics and others affiliated with healthcare sectors have died of coronavirus while battling on the frontline against the disease.

According to figures compiled by the medical community, 30 doctors, three nurses, a paramedic and an operation theatre assistant have lost their lives to Covid-19 in Punjab; 11 doctors and one nurse in Sindh; six doctors, two nurses and one paramedic in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa; four doctors and three paramedics in Balochistan; an operation theatre technician at PIMS in Islamabad; and one doctor in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The casualties in Lahore include Prof Ijaz Ahsan, Dr Muhammad Saleem, Dr Sana Fatima, Dr Salman Tahir , Dr Hafiz Maqsood, Dr Zia, Dr Asif Ali, Dr Ali Nazir, Dr Husne Ahmad, Dr Basit Ghafoor, Dr Rahat Maqsood, Dr Ghulam Hussain Dr Asif Mughal and Dr Anwer Sulehri. Other healthcare workers who have passed away in Punjab include Dr Naeem Akhtar, Dr Gulzar and Dr Asma Hassan in Gujranwala, Dr Syed Nasir Ali and Dr Wasim Mushtaq and Nurse Parveen in Faisalabad, Dr Munawar Javaid and Dr Akram Qureshi in Sialkot, Dr Tanveer Akram and Dr Irshad Sandhu in Sargodha, Dr Javed Bajwani and Dr Khalid Masood in Dera Ghazi Khan, Dr Rabia Tayyab and Operation Theatre Assistant Rangeen Khan in Rawalpindi, Dr Akhter Hussain in Muridke, Dr Umer Daraz in Okara, Dr Musaddiq Hussain in Bahawalpur , Dr Ghazala Shaheen in Multan and Nurse Sadaf Jameel in Gujrat. Nurse Robina also died in Punjab.

The casualties in Karachi include Dr Abdul Qadir Soomro, Dr Furqanul Haq, Dr Zahoor Sheikh, Dr Zubaida Sattar, Dr M Nawaz Gohati, Dr Asad and Nurse Ambreen Khalid.

Dr Noshad passed away in Hyderabad, Dr Shafqatullah Sheikh in Khairpur, Dr Tahir Almani in Tando Muhammad Khan, Dr Younus Channa in Kandkhot and Dr M Ishaq Malik in Jacobabad.

The doctors who died of Covid-19 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa include Dr Khanzada Shinwari in Hangu, Dr Azam and Dr Phag Chand in Nowshehra, Dr Aurangzaib in Peshawar, Dr Javed in Charsadda, and Dr Abbas Tariq. Nurse Mussarat Dilbar and Paramedic Ashraf also passed away in the province.

Dr Naeem Agha, Dr Aslam Mengal, Dr Zubair Ahmad, Dr Shah Wali died of the disease in Balochistan. Dispensers Haji Dilawar Khan and Haji Munawar Khan are also among the casualties in the province. Dr Usama passed away in Gilgit-Baltistan and Izhar Chacha, an operation theatre technician at PIMS in Islamabad, also died of the disease.
