DERA GHAZI KHAN: As many as five men have been arrested by police for throwing acid on their sister-in-law over a domestic dispute.

The woman was shifted to a hospital in critical condition. Shah Saddar Din police claimed to have arrested the men involved in the acid attack and registered a case after District Police Officer Akhtar Farooq took notice of the incident.

The incident took place in Shah Saddar Din, where the woman informed the police that her brothers-in-law had thrown acid on her face over a domestic dispute.

Acid attack incidents continue unabated

The Shah Saddar Din police station SHO registered a case against the accused Manzoor Hussain, Fida Hussain, Shahnawaz, Allah Nawaz, and Rabb Nawaz. The police shifted the complainant to a hospital and started investigations. Meanwhile, the DPO of Dera Ghazi Khan issued orders to the SHO for immediate arrest of the accused. SHO Inam Nabi along with his team arrested the five accused and initiated further legal action against them. The SHO stated that he would try his best to provide justice to the victim. Violence against women, in particular, is intolerable, he said.

Incidents of violence against women have been recurring regularly all over Punjab. Several acid attacks are among cases of violence against women reported in the province during the current year.

In all these incidents, girls and women under the age of 30 were the victims.

A young girl suffered burn injuries on her face and arm when her former fiancé attacked her with acid in Jaranwala.

The victim, Maryam Atiq, was engaged to her cousin Kamran, a resident of Bahawalpur. The engagement was called off due to certain suspicions over the character of Kamran. Kamran threw acid on his ex-fiancé when she stepped out of her home to throw garbage. As a result, Maryam sustained severe burn injuries on her face and arm.

Another incident was reported in April in the area of Chak No 241GB of Thikriwala police station with Humera Bibi. She was attacked with acid by her husband Haroon and in-laws. Two accused involved in the incident were arrested by police and sent to jail. However, the case is pending in courts.
