In light of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide on June 14, the conversation around depression has picked up pace once again.

Deepika Padukone, who has famously struggled with her mental health and been vocal about advocating for mental health, has also joined the discourse.

Taking to Twitter, Padukone shared an important distinction that some might overlook in the avalanche of recent discussion; "Repeat After Me. Depression is not the same as sadness. Repeat After Me. Feeling depressed is not the same as feeling sad," she wrote.

Right after news of Rajput's demise broke on social media, Deepika also shared a heartfelt message with her followers. "As a person who has had a lived experience with mental illness, I cannot stress enough about the importance of reaching out," she wrote.

"Talk. Communicate. Express. Seek help. Remember, you are not alone. We are in this together. And most importantly, there is hope," she added.

Deepika has since then also highlighted the fact that while the discourse around depression and mental health is progressive, people shouldn't name their medication "simply because it is not a one rule fits all."
