K-P Police wants to renovate old building
PESHAWAR:
The provincial police have demanded funds worth Rs100 million in the budget 2020-21 for renovation and repairing of the decades old buildings of police stations across the province.
A source in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police Department told The Express Tribune that the police department has made a formal request to the provincial government for allocation of Rs100 million in the provincial budget.
The source disclosed that large number of police stations across the province lack proper sanitation systems, furniture and maintenance staff. Several police stations in Peshawar, Charsadda, Malakand, Swat, Kohat, Lakki Mawart, Lower Dir, Kohistan and other districts lack basic facilities, the source informed.
The written request sent to the government for allocation of funds read that most of police stations do not have reporting rooms and officials sit under the open sky or have made temporary arrangements for the purpose.
The source further informed that the request for grants also includes funds for reconstruction of police stations which have been partially or fully destroyed during fight against militancy.
The documents also showed that most of the police stations in the province were constructed during the British era which were now in shambles and could collapse anytime.
The police department wanted to renovate these old buildings and also provide them with latest facilities for better policing, the source informed.
