Twitter mocks Shaan Shahid's 'u-turn' after he praises 'Diriliş: Ertuğrul'

Actor clarifies he was against 'PTV' for airing the serial, not the serial itself

Following the countless tweets against the airing of Dirlis: Ertugrul on PTV, actor Shaan Shahid went on to compliment the serial after watching it on Netflix.

Shaan took to Twitter on Sunday evening and wrote, "Just finished watching it. What a good effort, a classic masterpiece. Special thanks to the producers #mohmatbezdag #kemaltekden directors #akifozkan #metingunay #hakanarslan . The cast and the technicians who all worked tirelessly to make this epic. Thank you!"

The comments on this tweet of his tweet revealed how many of his followers had mistaken his criticism towards PTV as a criticism towards the show.

Feeling betrayed, some relayed how they had refrained from watching Dirlis:Ertugrul altogether because they "endorsed his views."

"I didn't watch and have been long endorsing your statements, now what I gonna tell them all, I'm worried, isn't it a U-Turn man?" asked a user.

To this Shaan simply responded saying, "I watched it on Netflix."

In an earlier and now deleted tweet, Shaan had also pointed out how much PTV charged for airing a show that was already available on Netflix. He wrote, “PTV charged 7 billion a year to show us a product that’s already available on Netflix.”

But he still received flak from several users commenting on how the channel aired a dubbed version of the serial in Urdu for the majority to understand. Whereas Netflix streamed the Turkish serial with English subtitles.

Others pointed out how Netflix was not affordable for the masses in Paksiatn but being a state-run channel, PTV was available for anyone with a television.

Nevertheless, to justify his latest admiration towards the show and reinstate that his views on PTV remained unchanged, he penned another elaborate note.

"My tweet was against the state channel for not producing any content in the past 25 years and taking billions from us - never against the play. But in the past few weeks what I learned about all of us from social media was that we all tested positive for hatred," remarked Shaan.

"We are ready to hate each other for no reason. We are filled with rage and in that rage we construct a different meaning. A meaning that gives us the right to exercise our rage on others, a justification to one's justified hatred."

He then went onto relay the responsibilities of a state channel adding that any private channel could have run the show and he would have no issues.

"Any private channel can play foreign content as they have in the past and I have never opposed it. But a state channel has more responsibilities towards its people to promote ideologies, heroes and productions," concluded Shaan.

But many users are still criticising the actor for supporting Netflix over PTV, reminding him that not everyone is privileged enough to afford entertainment available only on various streaming platforms.
