Jirga’s attempt to give young girl in Swara foiled
Police arrests three members of the local council of elders
PESHAWAR:
Foiling a jirga’s attempt to marry off an under-aged girl to a 41-year-old married man, the police arrested three members of the local council of elders and rescued the young girl.
According to sources, the 13-year-old girl was married as ‘Swara’ following allegations of illicit relations with an 18-year-old girl against her brother, Sudes.
He was confined in a house after the allegations. The jirga called to settle the issue had decided to give Sudes’ sister as ‘Swara’ to the already married man.
However, Sudes’ uncle reported the incident to the police that took a timely action and rescued both the siblings.
Police also registered a case against all the Jirga members, adding that raids were being conducted for arrest of three other members
