US Ambassador Cameron Munter on Wednesday announced $100,000 to fulfill needs of SOS Village Quetta which comprises five houses and is host to 70 orphans. The amount will be spent on setting up two more houses in the village.
While addressing children at the village, the US ambassador said that the US and Pakistan have common values especially when it comes to helping the poor and needy. “The US is ready to support organisations engaged in assisting orphans and other needy people,” he said, adding that US sponsored English language courses are being taught in different parts of the country and will soon be brought to Balochistan as well. “Language plays a vital role in getting two countries closer,” he said.
Earlier, chairperson SOS and former senator Roshan Kurshid Barucha during her speech requested for donation. She said around 40,000 to 50,000 orphans need support but due to a lack of resources only a limited number of them are being given help.
Munter visits Balochistan quite frequently and has also announced to set up a fully functioning American Consulate in Quetta which will look after US sponsored development projects in the province.

appreciated;Ambassador Cameroon Munter for this great effort. The Baloch nation whould like to thankful to you for this great job.
What does he want in return ?
Good move. Never heard of any Pakistani politician visiting an orphanage.
weldon!
This is great news that a US Consulate in Quetta would be functioning soon. This would be of great help for people of Balochistan, who are most unprivileged province of Pakistan. They need proper system of education and with the presence of US Consulate in Quetta, the local people would benefit most out of it, specially in Education & Health sectors. My heartiest congratulations to US Ambassador Cameroon Munter for reaching out places in Pakistan in search of areas that he could help & support the locals. Hats off!
Mr. Munter: Why not setup an orphanage in Northern areas of Pakistan where hundreds of innocents have been killed by your sanctioned drone attacks.
A fully funstional American Consulate in Quetta: A fully functional American Consulate usually consists of a Drone operating Team and a team of Raymond Davises, has it been sanctioned also by Govt of Pakistan?
For mostly westerners and our most of non-Balochi leaders, Balochistan seems a no-go area. Howcome US Ambassador Cameron Munter is visiting quite frequently.
Mein kehta hoon kay daal mae kuch kala hai
This is ridiculous they have no idea how damaging institutional care is for children. Sheer ignorance. If this kind of money could be given to kinship care to support children's upbringing in family community care....but why make the effort of walking the extra mile why not just dump it in some institution and get headlines too. Frustrating!
