SCBA reiterates support for Justice Isa in presidential reference case
Supreme Court had adjourned hearing of the case till June 11
ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Tuesday reiterated its stance of standing with Justice Qazi Faez Isa – currently facing a misconduct reference filed by the president against him in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).
A meeting of SCBA executive committee, presided by its President Syed Qalb-i-Hassan, was held last week wherein a resolution was passed in favour of Justice Isa. Only two SCBA members didn't endorse the resolution.
The resolution condemned the presidential reference against Justice Isa as it is based on malafide accusations.
Justice Isa's petition hearing adjourned until June 11
It also added that the hearing of said reference until now clearly ‘shows the ill intention of incumbent government’.
The resolution resolves that SCBA, which is one of the main petitioners in Justice Isa case, would vehemently appear in said reference in order to safeguard the integrity and independence of the judiciary and stand side by side with SC judge till the fair and logical end of this case.
A day earlier on June 8, The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of Justice Isa’s petition, against a presidential reference, until June 11 due to non-availability of one member of the bench.
The decision was taken as one member of the bench quarantined himself and got retested for Covid-19.
