Virus tally rises by another 1,447 cases in Sindh
29 more deaths in the province, CM Murad says death ratio on the rise
KARACHI: Amany as 1,447 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in the province overnight, revealed Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday, adding that the virus had claimed another 29 lives, taking the death toll to 679.
Of the 8,513 samples tested, 17 per cent turned out to be positive, said Shah, adding that the province was utilising 99 per cent of its testing capacity of 8,600 samples a day.
With the newly-reported cases, Sindh's tally has reached to 39,555, which amounts to 16.5 per cent of the total screened samples to date.
The CM stated that 435 coronavirus patients were in critical condition and 83 of them were on ventilators, whereas 468 patients had recovered overnight, taking the total number of recoveries to 19,137.

According to him, the death ratio had risen from 1.5 per cent to 1.7 per cent of the cases, while the recovery ratio had come down from 50.1 per cent to 48 per cent.
"This shows that the problem is worsening and we must be more careful and realistic in adopting a new lifestyle," he said, once again urging people to follow the standard operating procedures and avoid public gatherings.
Sharing details about the active Covid-19 cases in the province, he apprised that 19,739 patients were under treatment, of which 18,263 were in home isolation, 1,416 were receiving treatment at different hospitals, and 60 were quarantined at isolation centres.

Of the newly-diagnosed cases, the chief minister said, 963 belonged to Karachi alone. Presenting the district-wise breakup, he shared that 284 belonged to East, 237 to Central, 214 to South, 130 to Malir, 63 to Korangi, and 35 belonged to West district.
He added that 54 people were diagnosed with the contagious disease in Hyderabad, 39 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 36 each in Larkana and Sanghar, 34 in Ghotki, 33 in Khairpur, 17 in Jamshoro, 14 in Dadu, 13 in Badin, 11 in Kashmore, nine in Mirpurkhas, eight in Sukkur, two apiece in Matiari and Naushehro Feroze, and one each in Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Umerkot and Qambar-Shahdadkot.
