KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) administration closed the out-patient department (OPD) at KU clinic after the varsity's chemistry lab attendant tested positive for the coronavirus on Saturday.

This has been confirmed by KU clinic senior medical officer.

According to a notice issued by the KU, the OPD has been closed keeping in view the health risk. However, the notice states, the facility will be opened from 9am to 12pm daily to deal with emergency cases, deliveries, cancer patients and the removal of kidney stones, as well as for the collection of medical reports.

"The decision has been taken for the well-being of university staff colony residents and other staff members," the notice reads.

However, despite the closure of the clinic, non-teaching staff at the facility has been instructed to ensure attendance twice a week. The infected lab attendant is a resident of the varsity's staff colony and his diagnosis has raised fear among other residents.
