A single bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). headed by Justice Mohsin Akhtar, heard the mayor's petition for suspension and contempt of court. Lawyer Kashif Malik appeared in court on behalf of the mayor.

During the hearing, Additional Attorney General Tariq Khokhar apprised Justice Akhtar that he was giving a statement to the court in light of the government's instructions to withdraw the suspension notification against the mayor.

The court dismissed the petition related to the suspension and contempt of court submitted earlier by capital's mayor.

High court reinstates Islamabad mayor, annuls suspension

Following the withdrawal of the notification by the government, Aziz has been reinstated permanently.

Earlier this year, the IHC directed for Islamabad mayor to be reinstated on his post.

The court annulled the 90-day suspension notification issued by the government on allegations of corruption.

The Islamabad advocate-general stated before the court that the federal cabinet suspended the mayor on the recommendations of the Local Government Commission.

Aziz was accused of corruption in the Rs42 million contract of intercity bus terminals – five bus stations in various parts of the city – that the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) had awarded last year, the court was informed.
