Over the years, weddings in Pakistan had become all but a simple affair. So, when the pandemic broke out and over-the-top wedding plans spiralled, things invariably bounced back to a somewhat new, albeit old-fashioned, normal.

What’s better than a simple, low-key wedding with just close family and friends in attendance and no lavish trappings? That’s right, not much, and that’s exactly why many people are making the most of this time and going ahead with signing those papers that seal the deal. Including many celeb couples!

Here’s a list of some celeb couples who chose to keep things simple and tied the knot amidst the coronavirus lockdown – that’s got to make for an epic story for the kids too!

While this wedding was not exactly ‘simple’ – hello, they flew their family and friends out to Abu Dhabi for a destination wedding! – But it happened at the start of the pandemic so it’s understandable why the couple did not drop their original plans.

After a whirlwind romance for around two years, the gorgeous couple tied the knot in March, 2020, and this one will surely be one for the books for their family. Not to mention, even if Sajal couldn’t make the celebration that simple, she dialled her look down and kept it simple and old-school on her big day.

Samina Ahmed and Manzar Sehbai

At 70, these two decided to listen to their hearts, took the leap together and tied the knot! When news of the couple’s wedding broke, the internet overturned with joy, celebrating the couple’s joy and wishing them all the very best for their journey together.

The two kept it extremely simple and sober as seen in the photos from the nikkah ceremony which took place on April 4, 2020. Samina donned a simple and classic sari while Manzar looked dapper in a waistcoat. Here’s wishing the two happiness and health!

Hina Altaf and Aagha Ali

This one came as something of a surprise for their fans, even though people had cracked that the two were dating. Majorly because Aagha had been in a pretty open and public relationship with Sarah Ali Khan which later disintegrated.

Hina and Aagha sealed the deal on May 23, 2020, among what seems like close family. Hina looked radiant clad in a simple nikkah outfit while Aagha pulled off his usual sharp looks in a cream sherwani waistcoat.

According to the lovebirds, they couldn’t spend much time apart in the lockdown and thus, realised that they wanted to get married! Talk about love in the time of corona!

Faryal Mehmood and Daniyal Raheal

Faryal Mehmood and Daniyal Raheal, son of Simi Raheal, had already been tied with each other for two years before they decided to take the big step this May.

Travelling by road from Karachi to Lahore to be with their family on their big day, the two kept the ceremony simple and traditional; with Daniyal’s family in attendance and Faryal’s family on video call all the way from US.

"I am the luckiest man. I honestly am,” wrote Daniyal as he announced the union on his Instagram.

Sadaf Kanwal and Shahroz Sabzwari

Perhaps the most controversial union in this list, and a shocker to say the least for their fans! Rumours about the two’s courtship had been doing the rounds since December, 2019 but were vehemently denied in light of Shahroz’s ongoing divorce proceedings with ex-wife Syra Yousuf.

After his divorce with Syra was finalised in February, it seems like Sadaf and him found solace in each other and what’s better than finding a partner in your friend? Here’s wishing the couple all the best of luck and hopefully, they can progress past the negativity against them.
