Suspects confess to beating child maid

RAWALPINDI: A couple charged with assaulting a minor domestic worker and causing her death has allegedly confessed to their crime before the investigation team on Wednesday.

However, the male suspect, Hasan Siddique, has rejected the rape charges levelled on him. Meanwhile, the Rawat police station Station House Officer (SHO) SI Malik Kashif has been replaced. An eight-year-old minor domestic worker had been violently beaten by her employers on Monday for setting their expensive parrot free. She later succumbed to her injuries in a private hospital.

Hours later, police arrested the suspects. Sources in the police told The Express Tribune that the couple had confessed to assaulting the child. However, Siddique refuted the charges of sexual assault. It added that the couple had hired Zehra to look after their infant girl who was born a few months ago.

The suspects have also admitted to beating the worker for committing petty mistakes.
