Sindh reports 29 more deaths as single-day cases continue to rise in province
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced on Wednesday the staggering emergence of 1,824 coronavirus cases overnight in the province, stating that the diagnoses had resulted out of a record number of samples, adding up to 7,547, being tested in a day.
"Whenever we have tested more samples, we have detected more cases," he said, adding that the observation suggested an increase in the local transmission of the virus across the province.
Notably, 1,824 is also the highest number of cases to have emerged within a day in the province, following which the total count of the cases jumped to 32,910.
Presenting a geographical breakdown on the day's tally, the CM said that of the newly-reported cases, 1,284 belonged to Karachi, with 323 more cases being detected in East district, 299 in South district, 256 in Central district, 227 in Korangi, 120 in Malir and 59 in West district.
Moreover, 73 more cases were reported in Hyderabad, 36 in Ghotki, 24 in Shikarpur, 13 each in Jamshoro and Kashmore-Kandhkot, 10 in Qambar Shahdadkot, nine in Khairpur and as many in Dadu, eight each in Mirpurkhas and Sujawal, seven in Jacobabad, four in Nawabshah and Badin and three in Sanghar.
Besides, the CM said, 29 more infection-related deaths were reported in the province against 487 fresh recoveries on the day. As a result, the coronavirus death toll in Sindh has climbed to 555 while 16,022 patients have recovered from the disease thus far, he added.
This leaves 16,333 patients under treatment, including 15,070 in home-isolation, 111 admitted to isolation facilities and another 1,152 to hospitals, he elaborated. "Among them, 367 are in critical condition, of whom 56 are placed on ventilators."
He urged people to exercise more caution here onwards as the lockdown was eased further and public transport restored.
