Non-teaching employees demand PPE

Association demands safety kits for employees working in FDE educational institutions

ISLAMABAD: The watchmen and peons of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) schools are working without personal protective equipment (PPE), said the Non-Teaching Staff Association, a representative body of employees working under the FDE.

The association met on Monday and demanded safety kits for employees working in FDE educational institutions.

Regarding the opening of educational institutions for administrative purposes, the meeting observed that non-teaching staff, especially watchmen, are already standing on the front-line as they check  people entering the school.

Most of the staff are over 50-years-of-age and are made to work for several hours without safety kits, the representative body of non-teaching staff said. If something happens to them, who is responsible? So they should be provided with safety kits and clothing, said the association.

The meeting discussed a year-old letter from the education ministry about the promotion of four employees, noting the move has been deliberately delayed. Now the letter has returned, and grade upgrade should be given immediately. The meeting also discussed the issue of show cause notice after a false FIR against senior employees.

The association strongly condemned this anti-employee move and decided to ask Federal Secretary Education to make a transparent inquiry in this regard, instead of unilateral action.
