LAHORE: The association of theatres on Monday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the closure of the stage theatres by the provincial government in connection with the lockdown and prevailing situation of pandemic coronavirus.

The petitioner implored the court that numerous businesses have been closed down to avoid coronavirus. Theatres were also amongst the businesses closed down due to lockdown.

The petitioners contended the court that the government then allowed different nature businesses to work in different phases but there were only the theatres which were not allowed to do work.

The petitioner implored the court that they had to file a petition to as the authorities concerned did not bother to entertain them. They visited the officer of chief minister, chief secretary and DC Lahore but all in vain.

The petitioner submitted that they were fully aware about the recent SOPs issue by the government to restrain spread of coronavirus. The petitioner also contended that they were ready to run the theatres in the light of the SOPs of the government.
