After 2 months, K-P varsities reopen today
Relief and Settlement Dept says staff will conduct online classes
PESHAWAR: Public universities in the province are set to re-open today (Monday) after a break spanning over two and a half months.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Relief and Settlement Department in a notification on Sunday said that the vice-chancellors of all public universities, deans of faculties, heads of departments and other administrative staff will attend the university for the conduct of online classes.
Public universities including the University of Peshawar, Agriculture University Peshawar, University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, Islamia College University Peshawar and others had been shut down by the government in mid-March as the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic started to spread in the country.
Talking to The Express Tribune, the University of Peshawar (UoP) Public Relation Officer Ali Imran Bangash said that the university will be reopened as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Covid -19 prescribed by the government. He added that all precautionary measures will be ensured.
“The UoP has already made a software for conducting online classes and all of our teaching faculty has been trained [to use it] and the students and faculty members accounts have been generated in the software,” he said.
To a question regarding the availability of internet facility in the merged districts, Bangash said that these classes will be available on the varsity’s website along with notes and other related material so that students can benefit from it at a time and place convenient for them.
