CHITRAL: Chitral reported the first death in the district due to coronavirus as Pakistan reported a record 88 deaths a day before, taking the death toll to 1,483.

According to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) health authorities, the deceased was a resident of Chitral Town's Molda area.

The victim had travelled to Chitral from Lahore during the month of Ramazan. He had tested negative for the virus in two private laboratories.

However, he had to be admitted to a hospital twice after his arrival in Chitral. The patient was transferred to Peshawar after testing positive for Covid-19 at the DHQ Hospital.

His body was shifted from Peshawar to Chitral early in the morning, and will be buried according to the procedures marked for the burial of Covid-19 patients.

While deaths of Covid-19 patients hailing from Chitral have previously been reported, most of them occurred in Peshawar. Today's is the first death to have taken place in the region.

A day earlier, K-P recorded the most coronavirus cases in a single day as the virus infected 473 more people in the province, taking the tally to 9,540.

The K-P Health Department in its daily communique said that out of the new cases, 13 were reported from Torkham and 74 from international flights' centres.

It said eight more people died of Covid-19 out of which four were from Peshawar, one each from Charsadda, Swat, Buner and Abbottabad, taking the total to 453. At least 78 Covid-19 patients recovered taking the total to 2,809 in the province.
