BADIN: A man has accused his neighbours of setting him on fire after he resisted their attempts to occupy his land in Tando Bago in District Badin.

An injured Ali Akbar Sheedi made his way to the press club on Friday in a pickup van along with his children as he protested his neighbours’ actions and the police’s lack of cooperation. Ali accused his neighbour, Ramzan Sheedi and his son Arbab, of trying to occupy an empty plot next to his house in the middle of the night.

When he went out of his house to stop them, they threw kerosene oil on him and set him on fire, he claimed. Ali suffered burns injuries as a result. Ali also complained that when he went to Tando Bago police to file a complaint they refused to register the case, after which he vowed to seek the help of the courts.

After his protest outside the press club, DPO Badin directed SHO Tando Bago to register the case and start an inquiry.

Meanwhile, other residents of the area said that Ali and his brother got into a fight a few days ago over payment of the electricity bill. Ali set himself on fire in protest and later when he feared that someone would file a suicide case against him, he tried to frame his neighbours. Ali told Daily Express that he was a father of seven children and worked as a labourer.
