NUST holds first-ever online UN75 dialogue

ISLAMABAD: With society faced with various forms of inequalities, measures need to be taken to create a more equitable society.

This was stressed by speakers on Thursday during an online dialogue on "Inequalities: Bridging the Divide". The dialogue organised by the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) as part of the UN75 debates being held across the globe to commemorate the United Nations’ 75th anniversary.

These dialogues are intended to crowd-source high-impact solutions to the current and impending problems. They will then be curated and presented at a special event at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, later this year.

Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Development Kanwal Shauzab shed light on how legislation in the National Assembly helped create platforms to curb inequalities.

MNA Romina Khurshid Alam, who is also part of the parliamentary panel on the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said that the goals are achievable.

Issues about access to education were discussed by Education Ministry Additional Secretary Saleem Ranjha. Digital Rights Foundation founder Nighat Dad highlighted the legal and gender-based aspects of inequalities.
