PM Imran calls for making reports of all previous air accidents public

Assures families of PK 8303 crash victims of justice; says public to be informed of facts revealed in inquiry report

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan directed for reports of all past air accidents in the country to be made public to make people aware of the facts regarding the incidents, on Thursday.

Presiding over a high-level briefing regarding the May 22 Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) passenger aircraft crash, the prime minister assured the families of the crash victims that all their demands of justice will be met.

PM Imran was briefed about the progress of the investigation, and also informed about the services being taken of foreign experts to make the probe transparent and impartial.

Expressing deep sorrow and grief over the loss of human lives in the plane crash, the PM said that the accident to have happened near Eid was a great tragedy for the nation.

“There is no substitute for human life. But the government assures the victims that all the demands of justice will be met regarding this tragic incident," the premier said. “The public would be fully informed of all the facts and details revealed in the inquiry report.”

The prime minister directed that no effort should be spared to bring forth a transparent and impartial inquiry and facts about the incident.



“In addition to providing all possible facilities and compensation to the families of the martyred passengers, a package should also be prepared to compensate the victims whose homes or properties have been affected by the accident,” the PM directed.

The premier further stressed that in order to make air travel safer, it is necessary to expedite the reform process in civil aviation, PIA and relevant agencies.

Minister of Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Minister of Information Center Shibli Faraz, Special Assistant to Prime Minster (SAPM) for Information and Broadcast Lieutenant General (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa, Special Assistant Dr Shahbaz Gul, Secretary Aviation Division Hassan Nasir Jami, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PIA Air Marshal Arshad Mehmood Malik were present during the briefing.
