Two killed, four injured in Gujjar Khan clash

Clash between neighbours was triggered by dispute over drainage line

RAWALPINDI: At least two people were killed while four others, including a woman, were injured during an armed clash for building a drainage line in the Mohri Basal village on Monday.

The incident, in which a man and his son were killed, took place within the remits of the Gujjar Khan police station on the second day of Eidul Fitr.

The Gujjar Khan police said that Ali Azam and others wanted to build a drainage line outside their homes. However, their neighbours, including Haji Iqbal and others forbade them from doing so.

This disputed descended into a quarrel between the opposing parties. It soon turned into an armed fight as Imran and Zafran allegedly started firing at their opponents. As a result, Iqbal and his son, Hamid, died on the spot while four people, including Nazia Bibi, Tauqeer, Ashfaq, and a member of the opposing group, Ali Azam, sustained injuries.

As news of the armed clash spread, Saddar SP Ziauddin rushed to the site with a heavy contingent of police and cordoned off the area. All the injured and the dead were shifted to a hospital while forensic experts collected evidence from the site.

The SP confirmed that the clash between both parties occurred over a dispute involving the construction of a drainage line. He added that all the injured had been shifted to the hospital while the deceased’s bodies were also shifted there for post-mortem.

The police official said that they have registered a case and are probing the incident.
