LAHORE: At a household in Lahore, members of a family decided to celebrate Eid online through a video conferencing application ‘Zoom’. Immediate and extended family gathered on the online platform despite different time zones for the Eid dinner party spread across countries.

Covid-19 lockdown had inhibited many families from visiting each other owing to associated health risks. Technology savvy millennials found a way to celebrate Eid with their loved ones through an online medium.

“It has been four years since my sister and I celebrated Eid together with our families when she visited us in Pakistan. It is heartwarming to see everyone dressed up and celebrating together,” a 62-year-old retired school teacher, Nafeesa Begum, who enjoyed the online party with her family, told The Express Tribune.

“Coronavirus is taking away our loved ones. We have to be more careful if we truly love each other.”

The online party was moderated by her daughter, which had 14 families online from five different countries.
