Damn foreigners…

June 18, 2010

KARACHI: This is with regard to Sami Shah's hilarious article “Damn foreigners...” (June 17). Mr Shah points out that instead of realising that religious groups slaughter minority groups simply for being different, we blame external forces since deflecting blame is easier than taking responsibility. Earlier today, one of my students was reluctant to speak against Israel’s use of force, maintaining that as a nation we did nothing to protest or prevent the mass killings of Ahmadis and, therefore, have foregone our right to judge others. I couldn't agree more. Also, if talking is 90 per cent of our plan of action, we might as well direct our attention back home, sort matters here, and then go off saving the world. It’s what we wish the US would have done on the Iraq issue, so why can't we practice what we preach?
