Over 1,000 new coronavirus cases confirmed in Sindh

Province reports more than 900 fresh recoveries, 17 more deaths

KARACHI: On Wednesday, Sindh saw the emergence of a staggering 1,017 new coronavirus cases, in addition to 17 more infection-related deaths and over 900 fresh recoveries.

This was disclosed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued on the day.

"This [1,017 new cases] is [one of] the highest figures recorded since February 26, when the first coronavirus case was detected," he remarked.

Elaborating on the geographical dispersion of the newly-reported cases, the CM stated that 813 of them belonged to Karachi, comprising 230 from East district, 157 from South district, 144 from Central district, 109 from Korangi and 76 from Malir.

Sharing these details, he said, "As usual, Karachi is on the top in terms of local transmission [of the coronavirus]."

Apart from these cases, the CM said, 27 new cases were reported from Hyderabad, 26 from Larkana, 18 from Khairpur, 15 each from Sukkur and Ghotki, seven each from Badin, Qambar-Shahdadkot and Thatta, six from Shaheed Benazirabad, four from Sanghar, three from Dadu, two from Sujawal and as many from Jacobabad.

The CM further stated that the coronavirus had claimed 17 more lives in province, bringing the death toll to 316, while another 904 patients were sent home after recovery, following which the number of total recoveries in the province climbed to 5,645.

He said that currently, 13,003 patients were under treatment for the coronavirus in Sindh, among which 11,516 were isolated at their homes, 809 were accommodated in isolation centres and 678 were in hospitals. Of them, 127 people, including 32 who are on ventilators, are critically ill, he added.

The CM urged people "to be vigilant and careful of the virus," warning that it would not be possible to contain it otherwise.
