Public transport in the province has been divided into three sections, the first includes those which ply on highways, intercity transport and public transport which runs on diesel.
Those operating on plain roads, fares have been reduced from 93 paise per kilometre to 78 paise per km.
Those driving on unpaved roads, fares have been reduced from 98 paise per km to 82 paise per km. Fares for hilly areas have been reduced from a rupee and four paise to 87 paise per km.
Intercity public transport fare has been reduced from Rs12 to Rs10 for up to four kilometres, intercity non-airconditioned fares have been cut from Rs19 to Rs16 for between four to eight kms. fares for 8kms to 14kms have been reduced from Rs23 to Rs19, while fares for 14 to 22kms have been reduced from Rs23 to Rs19, for 22 to 30km, the fare has been reduced from Rs32 to Rs27. Similarly, fare for travelling over 30km has been reduced from Rs38 to Rs32.
In non-AC intercity fares, the fare for four kilometres has been reduced from Rs15 to Rs14. Fare for 4km to 8km has been reduced from Rs16 to Rs15, fare from 8km to 14km from Rs20 to Rs19, fare from 14km to 22km has been reduced from Rs24 to Rs23.
The fare for non-AC 22km to 30km has been reduced from Rs28 to Rs27, the fare for more than 30km has been reduced from Rs35 to Rs34. The new fare will be effective in Punjab from today (Tuesday).
